8th April 2010 - The Equality Act received Royal Assent on 8th April 2010. It brings together and re-states the existing discrimination legislation concerning sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief and age, and seeks to adopt a single approach where appropriate. The majority of the provisions should come into force in October 2010.

6th April 2010 - Sick notes to be replaced with ‘fit notes’, which allow the doctor to indicate whether an employee is fit for work, and suggest actions that an employer could take to facilitate an individual’s return to work.

6th April 2010 - Up to six months of maternity leave will be transferable to the father in the second six months of a child’s life. The move will be effective for children born on or after 3rd April 2010.
