Redundancies are becoming an alarming reality as the current economic downturn continues. The number of people losing their jobs is rising faster than any other time since the recession of the early 1990s. We at Park Woodfine Heald Mellows have been busy advising employers on how to safely manage redundancies as well as advising individual employees over their legal rights.
According to figures from the Office of National Statistics, the total number of unemployed has risen by 164,000 in the three months to August, the most rapid increase since June 1991. It is being predicted that the number of unemployed could reach two million by this Christmas, with the worst yet to come in terms of Employment Tribunal claims.
