PWHM Staff raise over £1500 for Happy Days - 30th June 2011
Happy Days Children’s Charity (based in Bedfordshire) was our chosen charity for 2010/2011. We focused all of our charitable giving on this charity and in total raised £1,501.95 which we presented to the charity's CEO, Ryan Sinclair, at our AGM in June. All the staff at Park Woodfine Heald Mellows LLP have worked hard in order to contribute.
Happy Days is a national organisation that focuses on children and young adults with special needs. Whether they have severe mental of physical disabilities or a life-limiting illness, Happy Days organises and fund holidays, residential trips and days out for the children and their families. Happy Days also helps young people who have been victims of abuse, neglect, have witnessed domestic violence or have suffered bereavement as well as those young people who act as carers for a loved one.
Our money has been used to fund trips out that the children otherwise would not have been able to go on. They have planned for around 20 children to go to the West End and watch Shrek at the theatre.
The largest portion of our donation funded a trip to an outdoor centre in Norfolk.
The residential trip that took place in January, was for 10 children and 2 carers from Grange School in Kempston to go and take place in a series of outdoor activities. The children all have severe learning difficulties and the majority are autistic. This type of trip is an essential boost to their development and also helps to greatly improve their social skills.
In order to raise this money, staff at the firm have taken part in various fund raising events including many a 10k race at Stanwick Lakes, ’Dress Down’ days and in-house cake sales. We’ve also held a ’Healthy Lunch’ day where members of staff made healthy soups to share with their colleagues.
Staff at the firm choose one charity annually to support in addition to supporting local charities with specific projects. For more information about Happy Days Children's Charity, please visit http://www.happydayscharity.org/
